The fourth annual Bike for the Brain, otherwise known as B4B, takes place Monday, Sept. 7.

The event will take place at the Johnson County Mental Health Center, 6000 Lamar, Mission, Kan., and aims to increase understanding about brain-based illnesses that have emotional and behavioral symptoms. Nearly one in three Americans will experience some form of mental disorder in their lifetime.

The ride will begin with an “up/down auction” fundraising activity. The event will also include a one-mile walk, a 5K fun run and the annual B4B Tricycle Challenge.

Registration for the event begins at 7 a.m., with the ride starting at 8 a.m. and ending at noon.

The bicycle ride costs $20 for riders who sign up before September 4 and $25 at the event. Funds raised will support local nonprofit organizations.

Sponsors include: Crittenton Children’s Center, Kansas City Psychiatric Group, and Responsive Centers. Community partners are: Costco, Empowering Our Children, InfoZine, Kansas City Bicycle Club, Liberty Fruit Company, Mental Health America of the Heartland, Metropolitan Council of Community Mental Health Centers, and Spin! Neapolitan Pizza.

To register, go to www.bike4thebrain.org or call (913) 323-6529.
