“A Toast for the Children,” a fundraising event for Crittenton Children’s Center, will take place Thursday, Oct. 1.

Crittenton Children’s Center is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing innovative behavioral health services to children and their families. It has served the Kansas City area for more than 113 years and provides inpatient hospitalization and residential treatment for children and adolescents. In 2008, the center served more than 2,500 children and adolescents.

This is Crittenton’s sixth annual fundraiser. Proceeds will be used for programming provided for children and families to overcome traumatic life experiences and mental illness.

“Our annual event raises money to provide Crittenton’s children with specialized psychiatric and behavioral health care that might otherwise be unavailable, regardless of their ability to pay,” said Janine Hron, chief executive officer. This year’s event will honor Mary Smart Higdon for her 45-year involvement. Higdon is a volunteer leader and one of three founding members of the National Crittenton Foundation.

Wine tasting, heavy hors d’oeuvres, and silent and live auctions will be available at the event, which is 6 to 9 p.m. at the Muehlebach Hotel. Tickets can be purchased for $125.
