Summer has arrived. We welcome the warm weather and more day light hours allowing for a host of outside activities for all to enjoy. Everyone loves summer. Flowers bloom, trees display varied shades of green and grass grows.
But summer activities that involve children must be monitored and supervised as they carry a potential for injury.

After practicing nursing for 32 years, I would like to consider myself an expert. Notice, I said I would like to. The truth of the matter is no one who goes into nursing ever becomes an expert. As a "seasoned" nurse, I strive to learn something new every day I go to work. My joke is that if I do, I can go home. That doesn't always hold true. Many times I make my discovery and have my learning moment at 9 a.m., which does not allow me to pick up my things and scoot.

Bad behaviors are well known in childhood or school settings but unfortunately these behaviors are not isolated from hospitals, other health care settings or even the nursing practice. |

The medical mission that I am involved in began when a group of Philippine doctors and nurses returned to the Philippines to give back to the people of that country. We were compelled to help by the disparity between our new world in the United States compared with the Filipino people who were very needy, especially the children.
