Couple makes donation to KU Cancer Center

A $10 million gift from a Texas couple with ties to Kansas City will support The University of Kansas Cancer Center.

The gift to The University of Kansas Hospital from Joe and Jean Brandmeyer of El Paso, Texas, will create an endowed chair of radiation oncology and support other patient care and research priorities needed for The University of Kansas Cancer Center to achieve National Cancer Institute designation, commonly referred to as NCI designation. An announcement of a renowned physician and researcher to fill the Joe and Jean Brandmeyer Chair and Professor of Radiation Oncology will be made in early 2010.

 

Providence names supervisor

altProvidence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan., recently chose Debbie Campbell, RN, BSN, as clinical supervisor of the Outpatient/Recovery Room.

Campbell will now be oversee all operations of the department.

 

Kansas City Hospice gains accreditation

Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care received accreditation from The National Institute for Jewish Hospice, commonly referred to as NIJH, at the Annual Accreditation and Training Conference on Nov. 19 in New York City.

This distinction, awarded annually, provides a link with NIJH, which provides updates on new Jewish insights in treating the Jewish terminally ill, and in answering all questions on Jewish law that might arise during the course of the year.

 

Liberty to accept Freedom Network

Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo., will accept the Freedom Network Select PPO insurance plan, offered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City in January. The plan enrolls around 80,000 people in the Kansas City area. Liberty Hospital estimates that around 20 percent of its out-of-network ER visits are enrolled in the plan.

 

Heartland receives 2009 Summit Award

Heartland Surgical Specialty Hospital, Overland Park, Kan., won the 2009 Summit Award from Press Ganey Associates, Inc.

The award recognized high customer satisfaction for more than three years. The hospital recently instituted “quiet hours” during the afternoon and night by reducing noise from nurse’s stations and dimming lights.
