St. Mary’s names Employee of the Year

altSt. Mary’s Medical Center named Jennifer McClaran, RN, BSN, as its Employee of the Year.

McClaran started as a cashier in the business office of the medical center 16 years ago and continued working while going through nursing school. She now works as the charge nurse in Interventional Radiology and coordinates patient care in the Endovascular Center.

 

Hospice plans annual Walk to Remember

Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care invites families to participate in its third annual Walk to Remember. Participants may walk as much as desired, take part in family-friendly activities or spend time at the Memory Garden to celebrate the life of a loved one.

The Walk to Remember will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., on Saturday, June 5, at Avila University, 11901 Wornall Road, Kansas City, Mo.

 

Legislature approves autism insurance mandate

The Missouri Legislature has approved a compromise version of legislation that would require insurance companies regulated by the state to provide coverage for children with autism spectrum disorders.

Rep. Jason Grill, D-Kansas City, sponsored HB 1341 and co-sponsored HB 1311, the two bills that make up the autism legislation that was approved by the Legislature and sent to Gov. Jay Nixon on May 12.

 

Kansas celebrates National Women's Health week

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment, also known as KDHE, joined the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health to celebrate National Women’s Health Week.

Festivities May 9-15 called attention to the importance of women’s health. In support of Women’s Health Week, state and federal departments of health challenged women to quit smoking.

 

Providence selects its Employee of the Year

altProvidence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan., selected Barbara McNett, RN, employee health nurse, as its 2010 Employee of the Year.

McNett works with Providence employees on health initiatives, such as the hospital’s wellness programs, influenza vaccinations, and tuberculosis testing. She also provides employee health services for staff members from St. John Hospital, Leavenworth, Kan., an affiliate of Providence.
